Deirdre MakKyneth (Alderford Oaken) |
Member of the Brendoken Choir and my favorite (first) piece of filk that I wrote the lyrics for https://youtu.be/Eg9gUJ2Pi0g | Denewulf Haakonsson (Narrental Constellation) |
Denewulf was the kingdom bard (skald in his case) for Lutr and Tessa. Denewulf Haakonsson is a mid 11th century (1066 era) Norwegian who served in the Varangian Guard and fought at Stamford Bridge with Harald Hardrada before finding his way to the Midrealm almost 12 years ago. I am squire to Sir Ivar Idthur-Drengr and student of Mistress Jofridr Thorbjarnardottir in the skaldic arts. I'm also a member of Haus Kriegsturm. I'm currently serving as the Knight's Marshal for the Shire of Narrental (Peru, Wabash, and Logansport, Indiana). My primary interests in the SCA (beyond fighting) are the skaldic arts, bardic arts (can't sing a lick, but never-the-less I write songs, mostly filks), and all things Norse. I've recently taken up an interest in archery, as a result of my interest in bow hunting; hours in tree stands has led me to ponder how my medieval Norwegian ancestors would have done it. I'd like to get into brewing mead and beer, but don't have a place in my home that would be conducive to storing for racking and aging. Currently I'm working on putting together a 10'-rule accurate kit for my persona, for both on and off the list field. Here's a pic; As you see it, my kit is good for heavy combat and everyday wear, except for the helm, neck, and hands. All other required armor is hidden beneath the garb. |
Derdriu Mael Maire (Riviere Constelle Constellation) |
Derdriu was the kingdom bard for Palymar IV and Aislinn II.
I have a 14th century persona. I am a Christian lady from Ireland (both mundanely and in SCA) with the love of music and historical culture. I love learning about A&S of all periods. I don't have any works of my own as of yet. I am fairly new at being a bard. I enjoy learning new songs and absolutley love singing. |
Dervila ni Leanon (Kingdom of Atlantia) |
I have left the SCA, but plan to put my articles and the text of some of my stories here on MidBards and possibly elsewhere on the internet.
Feb 2020 ====== Previous profile: I tell stories. Occasionally I'll sing a song or recite a poem, but mainly - stories. I don't write my stories, but I'm starting to. The stories I tell are usually based on period sources, generally Norse myths, Arthurian tales, and random folktales (I have a surprising number of Middle Eastern tales in my collection). I also tell a few SCA/urban folktales, mainly "Blood for Odin" (There. Now some of you will recognize me) |
Devin Breighallach (Swordcliff Midlands) |
Devin is a Leinsterman living in God's
own century (the Glorious 14th). He's traveled a bit working as a mercenary, and isn't sure he knows any songs that aren't sad. Dan Hurst is retired from the department of Corrections, and joined the SCA in 1981. He currently sings Bass with the UIS Chorus, and Lead with the Land of Lincoln Chorus (although he has also sang Bass and Baritone) and Foregone, a barbershop quartet. He doesn't sing in the SCA as often as he used to because "Not much of my current repertoire sounds right unless three other guys are singing with me." |

Dolan is one of the Boga-Hirth of Calontir. |
Dorothea de Beckham (Red Spears Oaken) |
Dorothea dabbles with several instruments and sings a variety of historic and SCA cultural pieces that
often fall into the categories of lullabies, dirges, or history through song (usually all at once) when she isn't being a Bardic camp mom or off singing while working on another project. She was the second Director of the Hippogryph Consort under the patronage of Baron Sir Cormac O'Sullivan, Baron Three Rivers (Calontir), Alto/Tenor with Tres Trepe (Midrealm), and Chronicler of the Bardic War. More recently she was a member of the Bard Guard (Queen's Guard) for the reign of Louis and Sadb (Midrealm) and Pennsic L. |
Drake Oranwood (Rusted Woodlands Kingdom of East) |
Drake Oranwood is an English musician living in the late Tudor period. His primary focus is
original SCA songwriting and performance, and he sidelines in Elizabethan lute pieces on guitar and the occasional filk. He is a joint student of Master Toki Skáldagörvir of Æthelmearc and Master Peregrine the Illuminator of the East Kingdom. Previously, he had been apprenticed to Mesterno Tyzes Sofia (called Zsof) of the Midrealm, and studied under Maistre Lucien de Pontivy of the East Kingdom. He has served as Consort's Bard of the East, and Baronial Bard of Concordia of the Snows. |
Dre' (un-DREY-uh) Monson (Inner Sea Kingdom of Northshield) |
I am newer to the SCA, but have been involved with music my whole life. Upright Bass is my main instrument. I also play a little bit of guitar, fife, penny whistle, drums, sing melodies and harmonies, and dabble in composing. Some of my music seems to fit in the SCA much better than other music circles--happy dance! I love campfires and bardic circles. | Éadaoin Ruadh (Rhyderich Hael Kingdom of Æthelmearc) |
(bio to come) | Edith de Brereton (Dernehealde Oaken) |
I'm Edith and I write poetry! | Elaisse de Garrigues (Oakheart Kingdom of Calontir) |
I enjoy writing original songs for the SCA community and performing period music. I'm also exploring
polyphonic composition emulating various period styles. I dabble in many instruments, but I primarily sing and play recorder. I am apprenticed to Countess Conna ingen Ui Chearbhaill, and I have served as Windhover Bard of the Outlands and Royal Skald and Bardic College Champion (Holder of the Big Damn Stick) in Calontir. |
Elashava bas Riva (Jararvellir Kingdom of Northshield) |
Emil Allzuwissender (Deceased)
Emil died suddenly and unexpectedly on January 14th, 2013. Emil is apprenticed to Master John ap Wynne and a member of Musica Subterranea. The following biography is cheerfully 'borrowed' from the Musica Sub pages. Emil Allzuwissender studied at half the universities of Europe in brief (sometimes very brief) stints. He learned two things: middling competence with a variety of musical instruments, and a sense for when RIGHT NOW becomes an expedient time to leave. His latest (and apparently final) departure from scholastic life left him adrift in Elizabeth's realm with depleted funds. His education serves him well as he pursues twin vocations of itinerant musician and occasional specialist in general salvage. Ernest Clark writes and maintains firmware for a major electrical equipment maker in Lafayette, Indiana. Power To The People (and billing info to the utility)! He paid singer/songwriter dues during the '80s in SF and SCA venues, then took a dozen years off for Real Life®. The SCA music scene exploded in the interim, or perhaps his wife Sara/Olwen's many skills now permit him to notice a lot more than he ever did in grad school. Sing! Do guitar! Write! Accept the challenge to develop those other incidental instrumental skills! Musica Subterranea is an indication that These Are The Good Years. |
Eyja Bassadóttir (Nordskogan Kingdom of Northshield) |
Heya! I'm Eyja!
A singer, poet, and Old Norse language geek. Former bardic champion of Northshield. |
Ezra ha-Yona (Cleftlands Oaken) |
Ezra -- of many names, such as d'Arles, le Catalan, ha-Yona, and simply of Cleftlands -- is an exceedingly enthusiastic youth who has unrelentingly found his home in the Society and the Middle Kingdom. He is often found bustling about the Barony of the Cleftlands, his beloved home, and conspiring to get a lift to events further afield in the Kingdom. Herald, scribe, scholar, poet, orator, rhapsode, and busybody, Ezra has no shortage of work, and no shortage of love for shirking that work off for some good old fashioned goofing off.
Rav Ezra received his Award of Arms for his bardic works in December of 2021 from Their Majesties, King Ullr Amaranthson and Queen Annelyse van Gavere. |
Francis Corbie (Kingdom of Outlands) |
Bard, rapscallion, and fencer | Garraed Galbraith (Nordskogan Kingdom of Ealdormere) |
(Persona) Garraed Galbraith is a land-owner living on the Isle of Gigha, at the
bottom of the Scots Hebrides chain, in the 11th Century. He was the (nominal) head of a large merchant household, which continues to be governed by the Brehon Law system and sells trade goods to Norse and Irish merchants. He has been awarded the rank of Olagh (Teacher or professor - the highest rank of the professional class of bard) but has retired from that class. He can attribute much of his success to his studies under his own Olagh, Eachuinn. He is married to a very, very young (not even born yet!) woman of Norman descent, Mistress Eleanor Fairchild. (SCA) Garraed Galbraith is inactive in the Society, but served as the ‘figurehead’ of House Galbraith for its first 20 years. One of the largest familial households in Ealdormere. He is Oathson to Hector of the Black Height (called Eachuinn) and therefore related to way too many people. His passion within the Society (when active) was the culture of the SCA and its people (as a form of modern mythology), and he enjoys both singing and writing. He is a huge supporter of the Bardic Arts and has had the honor of creating and hosting the Knowne World Bardic Congress in 2000, 2002 and 2006. He acted as the coordinator for the Pennsic XXX, XXXI, XXXII and XXXV Bardic Arts Exhibitions and forums and has been the autocrat for over 20 events over His time in the society. He is a former Kingdom (2 terms) and Society MoAS (2 terms) and BoD member. He is honoured to have had three fabulous students/apprentices - THLady Gwerrydd verch Rhys, Lord Ivhon Thorne of Sunrose and Falkgerthr Bambari Hoensaskjald called Kestra -whom he considers family and all of whom have vastly exceeded any teaching he may have offered. [Tim Jennings] is Executive Director & CEO of the Shaw Festival, one of the world's leading Theatre companies. He has taught Arts Management at several Colleges and Universities and has served/serves on several theatre industry, university and other not for profit community boards of directors, including the Board of the SCA (2010-2013). Tim is a staunch civil rights and arts advocate and activist as well as an avid collector of traditional folk music. He has married his lady fair, Truly Carmichael (Mistress Eleanor Fairchild) and they now live in Niagara raising their son, cats and costume shop. |

She is apprenticed to Master John Inchingham.

Hildigunnr Halldorsdottir (Ayreton Midlands) |
Hildigunnr Halldorsdottir (more research needed to be sure this is accurate) is the daughter of
Halldorr (obviously), a Norseman from the (?) century whose people originally lived in what is now called England, but were driven out by an invading tribe (the Celts?). Before leaving his homeland, Halldorr fell in love with a young Celtic woman (name TBD) who ran away with and married him. After long, hard travels, they settled in Scandanavia, where Hildigunnr was born. Growing up, Hildigunnr (sometimes called Hildr) learned of the Norse gods from her father, but her mother, being a Christian (more research needed), taught her about Jesus and the Christian Faith. Hildigunnr is a Christian like her mother, but she still remembers her father's Norse gods, thinking of them as old friends. Her mother was unable to have any more children, so Hildr's father trained her in warfare as he would have a son. Hildigunnr loves sparring with the other young warriors of her clan, though she has yet to taste battle and killing for real. She also loves to listen to the Skalds recite Sagas and Epics by the fire on long winter nights. She is working on composing an epic of her own, but is shy about her work and usually only shares it with her mother. Hildigunnr Halldorsdottir in the SCA loves heavy fighting, especially melees where it doesn't matter that she has rusty, underdeveloped technique; she can just charge, shove and whack people! She also loves all things Bardic, being a young Bard herself who surprised herself by writing an epic poem that actually turned out to be quite good in her humble opinion. Dancing, feasting and archery are also favorite pastimes of hers, and she has discovered a real love for retaining, because it's just so cool to be able to get so close to Royalty and that glowing aura they emit! Elizabeth Guenther is a Christian like her persona. She is also a geek, being a huge Tolkien lover, (she's learning Tengwar) Star Wars fan (she can quote a considerable amount of some of the movies) and DnD player (She named her first character after her persona so she would get used to people calling her by it). She also is a huge nature and animal lover. She is a recent recipient of an Associate's in Arts Degree from Oakton Community College. She is not yet quite sure what she wants to do with the rest of her life (besides being in the SCA- Duh!-) but is fairly certain she wants to work with animals. She will be exploring career opportunites in the near future. |
Hilla Stormbringer (Ravenslake Midlands) |
Persona:
Hilla is the eldest child and only daughter of Hama Ealdorman and his wife Leofrun. Though she is a capable enough cook and aid in household duties, and though she can darn a sock like no one's business, Hilla's true skill is as a Scop. She loves to sing and craft songs and tales, and tell old legends in the feasting hall. Storms follow her wherever she goes. SCA: Magister Hilla Stormbringer can be seen (or at least heard) at events, singing, singing, singing, causing mischief and mayhem, and random telling of stories. She also plays the onion flute. Her other activities include baking, occasional illumination, and attempting to not bleed on embroidery. Hilla is the current Bard of Ravenslake. She is a former member of Queen Sadb's Bard Guard, former Bard of the Border and former Bard of the Midlands. Hilla is the teacher of the incredible Honorable Lady Taliesin Wordweaver, and belt- sibling to the amazing Honorable Filidh Siobhán an Einigh of Connacht. Hilla is also a former apprentice of Master Cerian Cantwr, and former protégé of esteemed storyteller Mistress Morgana bro Morganwg. Hilla is the current Provost for Bardic Madness Midrealm. She also hosts an online bardic circle every other Saturday which celebrated its 4th anniversary in April 2024. She was the instigator-in-chief of the Ethereal Bardic Symposiums and the first Bardic Skirmishes. She was one of the event stewards for Bardic War. Contrary to popular belief, Hilla cannot control the weather. (Disclaimer: Hilla cannot independently confirm the veracity of the last statement.) |

In the SCA Johann has lived in the Barony of Sternfeld since the days of the Shire, nearly 25 years ago! He has served in many offices, autocrated many events, and has been an active judge in the Arts and Sciences for many years. Johann is often seen at bardic circles encouraging his many descendents, raising the occasional old German lieder, or telling a holy tale of the saints or the Scriptures as would befit a man of his degree and station. Mundanely, Marcus Loidolt is a Roman Catholic Deacon, serving in a Byzantine Catholic parish as Cantor and Home Visitor. He also works full time for the YMCA of Indinapolis as a naturalist and environmental educator. He has lived in many places around the world and served as part of a foreign government. |

She is: a fencer and proudly wears the favor her good Lord Llywelyn made for her; a cadet of Warder Brice Colquhoun; and enjoys equestrian games when she has a horse that enjoys it as much as she does. She is a member of the council of northern Oaken bards, Barista Vente of the Magic Carpet Kavehane, and is a frequent Mistress of the Revels for events in the Cleftlands and Eastwatch. She and Llywelyn serve on the staff of Radagaisus and Ceinwen in AS XLIV-XLV, as Master and Mistress of the Revels. In AS XLVI, she was named co-Kingdom Bardic Champion (with Llywelyn Glyndwr) for the second reign of Eikbrandr and Runa. She is apprenticed to Master Cerian Cantwr. |

Katerin ferch Gwenllian (Cleftlands Oaken) |
Katerin ferch Gwenllian was born to an inn employee in the early 14th century in the English/Welsh border area. Having no desire to follow her mother into the professional activities that had resulted in her birth, she learned all she could of the bardic and martial arts from guests who stopped at the inn, and in time took to the road. Many years of travel followed, with the exception of a few years on the Isle of Skye which resulted in a daughter, who remained behind with her father when Katerin's foot got itchy again but has lately expressed an interest in joining her mother's travels. Most recently, Katerin has taken service with a French knight. In the SCA, Katerin is the deputy pursuivant of the Barony of Cleftlands and enjoys fighting, a bit of barding, and designing and making garb for herself, her friends and family, and newcomers to the SCA. She is a man-at-arms to Count Alaric le Fevre and studies poetry under the tutelage of Meistara Jofridr Thorbjarnardottir. Sometimes she finds it difficult *not* to think in iambic pentameter. Samantha Pendleton works in sales and marketing for a manufacturing company in northeast Ohio. She has one daughter, who lives with her parents, and a menagerie of pets. Her favorite type of music is Broadway soundtracks, and she did quite a bit of amateur theatre in her younger days. |

My persona is a mid 13th century low land Scot - third son of a Welsh merchant and Scottish mother. I followed King Louis IX on the 7th crusade to seek fame and fortune. Eventually, I was given my commission at the battle of Damietta - and returned to France in 1250. I have been in the SCA since 1989. In addition to SCA combat, I do woodworking, armor construction, leather craft, and illumination. My household, Paragon Keep, is comprised of many fighters, artisans, and good gentles dedicated to service in the SCA. |

I'm an aspiring bard who is continually
expanding my repertoire. My persona is late 7th century Irish, so a lot of my material is Irish. I prefer to make people cry rather than laugh, because I usually laugh too much when I'm trying to tell a funny story. |

Llywelyn Glyndwr (Cleftlands Oaken) |
Llywelyn Glyndwr is a player and poet, born in Wales in the mid-1500s (his birth year recedes
annually so he can remain perpetually in 1599). He now lives in London and his day job, as secretary to one of Elizabeth's diplomats, allows him to visit many lands and even centuries, and to indulge in his hobby, collecting and wearing the costume of different places and times. He is particularly grateful for the opportunity of frequent visits to the vicinage of his lady, Juliane Bechaumpe. He is an archery marshall and an indifferent leatherworker. As of this writing he has not yet been deposed as Fearless Leader of the informal council of northern Oaken bards, and he is the nominal head of the bardic household Gorsedd. He is perhaps best known to the populace of North Oaken as Barista Vente (Lady Juliane is Barista Trenta) of the Magic Carpet Kavehane. He and Juliane served on the staff of Radagaisus and Ceinwen in AS XLIV-XLV, as Master and Mistress of the Revels, and he served as provost of both Midrealm's Bardic Madness and the Known World Bardic Collegium at Pennsic. In AS XLVI, he was named co- Kingdom Bardic Champion (with Juliane Bechaumpe) for the second reign of Eikbrandr and Runa. He is apprenticed to Master Cerian Cantwr. |
Lorelei Skye of Sans Nomen (Illiton Midlands) |
Lorelei is a wandering minstral trading music around the known world as far and wide as her feet and horseless carraige can take her. She often enjoys singing by firelight, playing for dancers by moonlight, and is a casual player of period games such as Mancala. She can be found as one of the street singers and stage performers at Pennsic. And the occasional Midwest regional renaissance faires and festivals with her singing group Rosaleen Dhu.
She was apprenticed to Master John Inchingham. Cathy joined the SCA in 1998 in the Barony of Rivenstar, Middle Kingdom. After spending 3 years "on Pilgrimage" in Lonely Tower (Omaha, NE) she briefly relocated to Sternfeld (Indianapolis, IN). Lucia Elena Braganza (Sternfeld Constellation) |
Lucia Elena Beatrice di Mettenini a Firenza Braganza is one of the infamous oft-widowed Von
Metten girls, but with two ex-es already turfed, she should be fairly safe. She doesn't have a well-developed persona, but likes Florence in the 1400's and tends to tag along after her good friend Francesca, who's teaching her the intricacies of Tuscan wines. Lucia has more often been spotted for her work as a scribe and the violinist for Musica Subterranea, before discovering the Pennsic Bardic Symposium in AS 38 and a big muckin' spear in AS 39. She is a devoted harmony junkie, and loves the magic when a good circle "clicks." She's fascinated by the tie between the bardic arts and SCA culture, and the ability for each to shape the other. She has way too many heroes, and more than half of the Amphisbaena Music CDs, which she is slowly committing to memory. She was apprenticed to Master Cerian Cantwr for seven years, ran off without graduating, and had just taken up with Mistress Tyze Sophia for a fresh round of shenanigans when the Order Of the Laurel pounced on her. Kathi Coutinho has an occasional taste for high adventure and surprising people. She's been a weed-slayer for The Nature Conservancy, a cyberstalker for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, and a trainer for Girl Scouts and (currently) an Insurance Enforcer for a moving company. Her house is always cluttered, but always loves visitors. |

Maggie O'Sullivan (Tirnewydd Oaken) |
Formerly of the East, Maggie has only recently arrived in the Middle Kingdom. She’s spent the last several years entertaining the Baronies of Settmour Swamp, Bhakail, Carillion and Carolingia with her songs and sense of humor. She occasionally laments that most of her favorite songs have her singing from the male perspective. When she’s not singing, Maggie takes delight in fencing (badly), heraldry, and embroidery. Mudanely, Trey Reilly moved to Columbus, OH in August for her dream job. She doesn’t really know anyone in the Mid yet, and looks forward to hearing new songs and meeting you all around the fire. |

Marie la Fauconniere (Ravenslake Midlands) |
Marie la Fauconniere was born in the closing years of the 13th century to the seigneur of a
minor estate near Calais. In 1331, while visiting Calais, Marie made the acquaintance of a Scotsman who had been in the company of James Douglas on his ill-fated expedition to the Holy Land to bury the heart of King Robert Bruce. She and Lochlainn MacGrioghair discovered that they shared many tastes and interests and it rapidly became clear that they were destined for each other. Marie signed over her French lands in favor of her daughter and departed for the Scottish highlands. Dame Marie now lives quietly as a twice-widowed lady of good breeding and moderate resources should, spending her days working in the herb garden and still-room and tending to the needs of the estate; but she can still often be heard singing as she hunts on the moors, oversees the kitchen, or does needlework by the warmth of the fire. Marie had the honour of being protegeed to Mistress Maggie of Cnoc Cait and Master Alexander de Seton of Altavia (in that order). She is also now apprenticed to Master John Inchingham, thereby becoming her own aunt. In the SCA, Marie teaches basic sewing skills, food preservation, and the making of Period-type herbal scents and cosmetics; fences (poorly but enthusiastically) and is a Marshal of the Field; and plays with wood, fiber, and/or ink and paint whenever possible. She has been Meadows Herald, Regional Seneschal, and local Seneschal, Exchequer, and Chatelaine. Musically, her research interests bookend the SCA period, being on the one hand early liturgical music, and on the other hand, late-Period English lute and vocal songs. She also enjoys writing and singing more popular styles and is studying harp, guitar, and recorder. In the modern world she is a sales-data and process analyst working for a major luxury-wine importer in NE Illinois. She is a fantasy/SF and RPG author and editor and former choir director. Her non-SCA leisure interests include painting, needlework, gardening, cooking, sports and voluminous reading. She currently resides in Kenosha, WI. |

I also like to make lucet cord (never know when a length of cord will come in handy), and dabble with embroidery and networking (hey, I know who might be able to help you…). Sometimes I’m giddy and loud, sometimes I’m quiet and trying to blend into the background. Either way, I will never turn down a moment with anyone who wants to chat. This is a hint.” Gwyn Singer wants to be a professional full time musician, but has to make do as a Customer Care Professional (she takes customer care calls for a cell phone company). Samson, better known as Samii, is a Rus-Viking nomad who earns his keep as a merchant/trader and sometimes mercenary. He believes strongly in seizing the opportunities presented to him as long as they do not compromise his integrity.
When not fighting, shooting target archery, or making something, he has been known to lend a hand or two at events. Much like his persona, Samii claims to be a nomad of the Midlands region, having ties to 3 of the Baronies in the region and traveling frequently between them. Samii recently ended his tenure as Thegn in the Barony of Carraig Ban, where he served alongside Baron Honda Heihachiro as the Landed Nobility there, following a move to the Barony of Jararvellir in Northshield. |

Sibyl of Blackwater (Talonvale Pentamere)
Persona: 15th century fiddler, who came from a musical family, who lived near the Blackwater River in Southern Ireland. Over the course of his travels, my father brought me back a violin from Italy, which I have played for many years. When dad died, my ma decided to marry me off to a much older man. I decided that I did not care much for that arrangement, and ran off to my aunt, where I became somewhat of a loner. SCA: Joined in 1987, and apprenticed in 1989 to Mistress Jehanne de St. Brieuc, of the Barony of Roaring Wastes. We had been going pretty well as a SCA dance band for many years, doing dinner theater fund raisers for St Charles Catholic Church in Detroit. But as time passed, the group faded away to doing an occational demo. I moved out of the direct vicinity of Roaring Wastes, and into the area of the Shire of Talonvale. Where I have joined with their local music group, and have gotten back into SCA on a more full time basis. She plays in the troup, Faire Companie. Mundane life for me consists of being in the CAD/engineering area of the local electric/gas utility. I have two children who have dragged me back into the SCA, and are gearing up to be fine adults. I have played violin and viola for approx. 25 years, and have taken up the viola de gamba. I have recently taken up weaving and spinning, and have dabbled in calligraphy. |

Sternfeld Rapier Bards (Sternfeld Constellation) |
The Sternfeld Rapier Bards are a group of bards who are also (mostly) authorized rapier fighters. We sing and we stab! We also have a high proportion of cooks, scribes, and shenanigans. We've had some incredible weekend workshops to improve our writing (the Slumber Bard-y!).
Our latest conspiracy has been the Crown Tourney Poetry Project - to write praise poems for each fighter entering Crown List (fall season) or the fighter's Consort Inspiration (spring season). It's been very well received, and has encouraged us to "up our game" and learn more period poetic forms. Come hang out with us, and have some meat cookies! |
Tali Essen of the Isles (Shattered Crystal Midlands) |
I am Tali Essen, called the Unicorn Bard. I am known for helping with ethereal
bardics, scribal, and jumping in when an extra hand is needed. I joined the SCA in the Barony of Shattered Crystal in 2014, and am active currently in person and in the ethereal realm. I have been in the Society since 1986, but took a 15 year hiatus shortly after the birth of my son.
So in a very real way, I am a newcomer all over again. But what an adventure it will be. And it has been so far. Just starting to indulge the creative side of me and looking forward to interacting with this group of most excellent people. |
Ursula Mortimer (Brendoken Oaken) |
Lady Ursula Mortiemr was born during the reign of the great Henry V. She lost her English father and Irish mother to a plague when she was a young woman. Her mother's father, a bard fallen on hard times, used to tell her the ancient tales when she was a girl. She now lives on a Wiltshire manor with her two sons Guy and Erasmus; they are wealthy for their modest station because of the wool they raise. Ursula loves to entertain travelers and pilgrims to hear the news of the day and tales of far-off lands. Ursula joined the SCA in early 2006 and is still reveling in belonging to a group of people who don't find her peculiar. Her home group is the Marche of Alderford in the Barony of Brendoken, North Oaken Region. Her bardic goals are to compose songs in both SCA and period style and learn to play the harp, drum, and pipe. She is particularly interested in learning all about modes. Ursula is apprenticed to Mistress Amelie d'Anjou. Michelle Hartz-Coutts is a single mom of two teenage boys living in New Philadelphia, Ohio, which is nicer than it sounds. A former English instructor, she is now self-employed as a writer. In the future, she hopes to be lucratively self-employed as a commercially successful writer. |

I have been a musican, singer, and songwriter for over 30 years (including teaching). My instruments are piano, guitar, mandolin, drums, tin whistle, recorder, and I'm learning violin and getting hurdy gurdy (beyond excited about that). My husband, Vali Sigthorsson and I have performed for many years together. I placed 2nd in the one A&S competition I entered. I normally just enjoy bardics and filking songs for fun. Performed multiple years for the Chiurgeon Benefit at Pennsic. I taught Middle Eastern drumming at Pennsic as well as teaching in our incipient shire of Estribyddg (Ashland, KY) (music, tribal dance, calligraphy, illumination, and heavy weapons). |

Wyndreth Berginsdottir (Shattered Oak Kingdom of Northshield) |
I am Skjaldvør Kormáksdøttir, called Wyndreth.
Wyndreth Berginsdottir is a 9th century Norsewoman. Wyndreth 'joined' the SCA in 1992, I think. Soon afterwards she discovered a love for skaldic arts. Just try and get her to shut up now. She met her future real-life hubby at a demo, and he's still her hero in shining armor. She had the distinct pleasure and honor of wearing a green belt from Mistress Morgana bro Morganwg. She was made a mistress of the laurel by King Palymar and Queen Aislinn in AS 32. She has had five fostersonnars and fosterdottirs (Wyndreth would have no concept of 'apprenticing' as the SCA practices it...) beneath her rooftrees, and every single one is a source of great honor and pride to her, as well as a person she is delighted to call 'friend'. She was honored to speak for her friend and fostersonnar Aleksandr Vasilevich Lev, who was elevated as a Companion of the Pelicanate by King Tarrach and Queen Fina. She was honored to beg the boon for her friend and fostarsonnar Ingus Moen, who was elevated as a Companion of the Laurellate by King Hrodir and Queen Guilia. She was honored to work with her friends and household to help produce "For The Good of the Land," a compilation CD fundraiser presented to the Kingdom of Northshield. Wyndreth was Bardic Champion to Princess Gwyneth-called-Starheart of Northshield. Wyndreth was personal champion to Jarl Tarrach Alfsson of Northshield. Wyndreth was personal skald to Prince Leif Haakenson called Greyfox and Princess Astrid of Northshield. It has been her purest honor to serve each of them, for they are giants walking among us, and the Old Ones surely know their names. |
