Fine Life

Tonis van Driele

Come to me now son, and gather the armor
And take up this blade that has served me so well
It's time that you started your journey to knighthood
A difficult task but this wisdom I'll tell

It's a fine life
To take up this challenge
It's a grand life
To do what we do
It's a hard life
Without any honor
So stand by your promises
Keep your blade true

And so I set off on the road to the castle
To meet wi' a knight that I would squire to
And there he did ask me, “Why is it you want this?”
“I'll have my answer before I train you.”

It's a fine life
To take up this challenge
It's a grand life
To do what we do
It's a hard life
Without any honor
So stand by your promises
Keep your blade true

For many long years I did learn from my master
We fought side by side at the tourneys and fields
Usurpers and brigands they tasted our mettle
But true were our weapons and honored our shields

It's not enough to carry the day
When all that you know is to fight
The power of man is in choices they say
To go 'gainst the odds and to do what is right

It's a fine life
To take up this challenge
It's a grand life
To do what we do
It's a hard life
Without any honor
So stand by your promises
Keep your blade true

It's been many long years since they granted my knighthood
And many more still since I gave them my word
Usurpers and traitors have tasted my weapons
Their blades were not true and too late they did learn

It's a fine life
To take up this challenge
It's a grand life
To do what we do
It's a hard life
Without any honor
So stand by your promises
Keep your blade true

So come to me now son
And gather the armor
And take up this blade
That has served me so well
