The Raven's Wing

Hilla Stormbringer

The Raven’s Wing

In the darkling night when shadows wake
And the mist creeps down the icy lake
When the stars are dim and the moon is old
Then the waves lash high and the wind is cold

And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!
And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!

The day so warm, it was soft as spring
And a good ship was the Raven's Wing
With a captain bold and an honest crew
More honest than the sky false and blue

And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!
And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!

Oh the laden ship was riding low
And a hundred miles they had to go
But the day was fair and the sun was bright
And the sky was clear -- not a cloud in sight

And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!
And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!

A rising wind with the setting sun
On before the storm they tried to run
For the icy air filled with spray and foam
Yet the Raven was only halfway home

And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!
And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!

Fierce autumn gale, came with the night
No safety near, not a harbor light
Then the witch's wind began to roar
In the driving rain they fought for the shore

And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!
And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!

A midnight wave broke over the bow
But the captain would not leave the prow
Then the stricken ship, let out a groan
For the Raven's Wing could not hold her own

And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!
And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!

When the morning came, no ship to save
No driftwood floats on the empty wave
And they never found where the dead might sleep
Nor the broken wreck in the water deep

And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!
And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!

A phantom ship, yet she still sails true
And the captain seeks a ghostly crew
In November storm over heaving swells
To the lonely shore ring the Raven's bells

And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!
And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!

In the darkling night when shadows wake
And the gale sweeps down the icy lake
For the sailors who dare the storms of fall
On the wind they'll hear the Raven's call

And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!
And the gulls cry ki, ki, ki, and the gulls cry ki!
