Song of the Frost

Hilla Stormbringer

Song of the Frost

The year is old, the year it dies
The wandering wind is wild and cold
And come the clouds, the clouds so grey
They bring the sleet, they bring the rain
Oh listen, listen, loud the geese cry!

Now hear, now hear the howl of the wolf
Singing, sighing, song of the frost

The days are short, the days are chill
The biting breeze is bold and strong
And come the clouds, the clouds so dark
They bring the hail, they bring the fog
Oh listen, listen, leaves on the wind!

Now hear, now hear the howl of the wolf
Singing, sighing, song of the frost

The nights are long, the nights are dark
The growling gale is great and fierce
And come the clouds, the clouds unseen
They bring the rime that brands the ground
Oh listen, listen, loons softly call!

Now hear, now hear the howl of the wolf
Singing, sighing, song of the frost

The winter comes, the winter nears
With strength of storms, with strength of wind
They call the clouds, the clouds obey
They bring the snow, they bring the ice
Oh listen, listen, long is the storm!

Now hear, now hear the howl of the wolf
Singing, sighing, song of the frost
