Snow on the Mountain White
When I was but a young man My feet e'er longed to stray They took me from my homeland To places far away I ever was a stranger And wandered day and night Until I saw the snow fall Upon the mountain white. The snow shone in the sunrise All flaming gold and red And shadows black as ravens That from the sunlight fled The shadows stirred my memory Of my love's ebon hair And how I wished to hold her And tell her she was fair And so for months I travelled Returning to my home And in my heart I promised From her I'd never roam But when I reached the meadow Where I’d stay by her side She did not come a-running And I sat down and cried. There was a lonely cairn Stark in the evening light All covered thick with flowers Like snow on the mountain white. |
