Upon the Dragon Throne

Ezra of the Cleftlands

No omnipotent sovereign, but King
with heaviest burden born: to govern fair.
Of Him alone 'twould not be right to sing,
but Queen as well, who must the burden share.
Of both, I sing, who share a bond most rare
for none could e'er the burden keep alone.
Thus hear me well, for praises I now air
of King and Queen upon the Dragon Throne.

By blade of binding oath they vowed to bring
justice, beauty, courage, and strength where e'er
the realm doth need. And so on dragon's wing
they fly across the realm so vast, and where
may be beyond their reach, they swiftly there
send word, and thus their love to all be known.
Swift be royal heart as speeding mare
of King of Queen upon the Dragon Throne.

The Crown care not for vain and prideful things;
to others' works they fix the Beacon's flare.
Such acts could change the winter chill to spring.
Thus for their sake I shall invoke this prayer:
Good health, good food, and all the kindest care
that they may rightly reap what they have sown.
Thus I sing of praise without compare
of King and Queen upon the Dragon Throne.

(Written to honor King Ullr Amaranthson III and Queen Annelyse van Gavere III for their gracious support of their bardic subjects.)
