Bells

Ríoghnach Locha Eachach

A babe's new breath breathes life into
The ones who hold her close
Her gurgles sound for all to hear
Just like the chimes of bells

Listen for the ringing of the bells
Ne'er shall you hear their like again
They ring for them
They ring for all
They ring for life anew
Listen for the ringing of the bells

The babe is quick a woman grown
With bells tied in her hair
Her song attracts the ear of one
Who falls for maiden fair

Though shy he is, he asks her name
And soon they're in a dance
With each twirl's a chiming song
That rings of love's soft trance

Listen for the ringing of the bells
Ne'er shall you hear their like again
They ring for her
They ring for him
They ring for new hope's bloom
Listen for the ringing of the bells

They dance and dance the whole night through
Not to her father's glee
But we all know, as he will soon
That this was meant to be

Not long from now, she'll take his arm
In the church down the road
And 'cross the town, tones will resound
Proclaiming for all to know

Listen for the ringing of the bells
Ne'er shall you hear their like again
They ring for them
They ring for all
They ring for future bright
Listen for the ringing of the bells

A babe's new breath breathes life into
The ones who hold her close
Her gurgles sound for all to hear
Just like the chimes of bells

Listen for the ringing of the bells
Ne'er shall you hear their like again
They ring for them
They ring for all
They ring for life anew
Listen for the ringing of the bells

True beauty we've seen in all its forms
A circle now complete
But even so, circles must end
Though it be bittersweet

Listen for the ringing of the bells
Ne'er shall you hear their like again
They ring for her
They'll ring for us
They ring for life lived long
Listen for the ringing of the bells
