To See the Crone (Not Alone)

Belle de la Tour

Rewritten after I performed "To See the Crone" to a crowd of northerners, and was immediately met with an anonymous voice ringing out from the crowd saying "Oh sweetie, no one walks on ice alone!" This one is for you.

Oh have you seen the Ancient Crone
Walking down the road
Oh have you heard her staff's harsh tone
As it taps the stones so cold

(Chorus)
Nay I'll never leave thee here
Nor shall you e'er go
For Lady Winter calls to all
Who walk her ice alone

Mary snuck out as a storm rolled in
To play a new game she'd made
Mary was found, just six feet down
In that snowy glade

(Chorus)

Pierre did hear Lady Winter's howl
And sallied forth to fight
Now Pierre does stand, with sword in hand
Frozen where he stood that night

(Chorus)

Brother Noel heard Winter's knock
And brought friends and food to call
For Noel knew only warm company
Could thaw Winter for all

(Chorus)

So shall we never leave a friend
to walk the ice alone
