Prizm’s Song

Wyndreth Berginsdottir

For Her Highness Prizm of Blue Rose

Tune: "She Moved Through the Fair"
Lyrics: c. 1999 K. Kahan

As softly as the doe moves in the first light,
as shyly as morning moves out of the night
so she first moved among us—
Now all of Northshield knows
why the flowers of the mountains bow to Prizm of Blue Rose.

No timid soul is she, wielder of sword and of spear,
and many fierce foemen did find their fates there.
Yet died they in wonder,
And welcomed the blows
that rained from the steel borne by Prizm of Blue Rose.

See the Stellar seasons turn as surely as winter to spring;
we honor the turning wherever we sing.
So I sing now of one
who ever star-like glows:
Beloved shield-maid, gentle heart, shines Prizm of Blue Rose.

Wyndreth Note--It is my undying belief that one of the most wonderful, most unsung treasures of Northshield's history is Prizm of Blue Rose. She was easily misjudged, I believe, as simply the quiet, shy extension of her hugely charismatic husband, Belrix of Blue Rose. And while she may have been these things, she was also a woman of heroic strength and good humor and insight and loyalty and generosity and a truly noble heart.

This song was also written as a birthday gift for her husband (and fellow Scorpio), Prince Belrix of Blue Rose. (Neither of them know that. :) In fact, neither of them likely knows this song exists. :) ) In trying to imagine the perfect gift for such a man, it occurred to me that the finest thing one could do for him was to recognize the exemplary heart and soul of the woman he loves. The only survivng draft was the first one--written on chunks torn from a paper bag from Office Max --and that was lost on the way home from their Coronet tourney, until recently.

So, I'm so very sorry, Prizm, that this wasn't known before now. And Happy Belated Birthday, Ard Ri, whereever you are.

I sure do miss you both.
