Wyndreth Berginsdottir |
Champion's Oath copyright Karen Kahan Hear me, Northshield, Friends and kinsmen, High and low of Heimdall's children! Hear me! Witness these, my sworn words! I am Wyndreth, Berginsdottir hight. Well I ween the wise one's words when well they spoke, these words they told: "Cattle die, Kinsmen die; Each of us will someday die, One thing only never dies: What is said when we are gone." Well and keen have I honed my tongue on the fine stone of this man's honor, and wield it wary to ward the name of this man, Tarrach Jarl! By Mjollnir dire, by Tyr's sword-hand, I swear it. I swear it by you, my kinsmen called to witness: Harm this Prince while I breathe and they will sing your shame at Ragnarok! Wyndreth's note... I had the indescribeable honor of being entrusted with the guarding of our prince Sir Tarrach Alfsson as his personal champion during his reign on the Stellar Throne. This was my vow and my warning and my promise to any and all who wished him harm; I took the responsibility damned serious. Still do. ;) The "Cattle die, kinsmen die" is taken directly out of The Havamal, which you can find in The Poetic Edda. Read it--it kicks ass!! |
