Rickhart's Quest

Lyrics: Torquil MacGillavrey
Music: Whistling Gypsy - Trad

Chorus:
Soo-ee-Soo Soo-ee Soo pig pig,
Soo-ee-Soo hey hey piggy.
Oh Rickhart looked high and Rickhart looked low,
To put pork on the Baronies table.
Verses:
The Baron and Baroness of Sternfeld said,
We'll have a contest of archers.
And then we'll feast, on a wood land beast.
So send our hunters to the forest.

Rickhart the Bowman went into the wood,
With long bow of yew and some arrows.
He searched through the trees and he searched through the leaves,
Ready for whatever arose.

He climbed over hills and he forded streams,
He searched through the brambles so thorny.
At the snap of a twig, he spotted a pig,
That was rooting in the leaves of an oak tree.

He took an arrow and drew his bow,
And then took aim at the piggy.
His shot went wild, and the pig got riled,
So now the pig was really quite angry.

This pig was a sow and she turned on him,
With maddened eye and a squeal.
Rickhart turned to flee, and he climbed a big tree,
And she attacked the tree with great zeal.

Now he would have been there a very long time,
If he'd gone a hunting solo.
A slug from a gun and the old sow was done,
And Rickhart climbed down very slow.

So raise your tankards and call for a toast,
To all who hunt in the forest.
It is very hard work, many dangers there lurk,
As Rickhart learned on his pig Quest.
