Katerin ferch Gwenllian |
We, Edmund, by the right of combat King O'er Dragon Realm and all the people there And Kateryn, who gentle grace doth bring Unto the crown of Queen belov'd and fair Salute this lady who hath ruled with care This kingdom, by her lord Alaric's hand For which we raise Noelle la Chauciere And hail her as a Countess of Our land. Her glad acceptance of his pledging-ring And promise that his future she would share Such joy unto Alaric's heart gave wing He vowed to win a crown for her to wear The mightiest opponents did he dare To elevate her to this station grand Let all, then, of her virtues be aware And hail her as a Countess of Our land. As patroness, she spurred the bards to sing In praise of kingdom and of royal pair; She learned to make the slender rapier sting; In battle, too, her arrows sliced the air. Inspired by her, from out the Dragon's lair A mighty host did victory command. O foes! Of all who fight for her, beware, And hail her as a Countess of Our land. This first day of October, fortieth year, In Tirnewydd, new-crownéd do we stand To place a coronet upon her hair And hail her as a Countess of Our land. |
