Aibhilin inghean Daibhidh (Drachenwald) | ||
---|---|---|
Aibhilin is a 16th century Irish woman who travels with the Landsknecht armies as part of the

She is primarily a herald and performing artist with too many interests, including bardic, choral, instrumental, Commedia, and theater and is currently the Theater Track Coordinator for Pennsic. Aibhilin is also a cook, having done primarily 14th-16th century English food and who is looking to get into sugar work, because it's cool. She is research obsessed and tends to research obscure musical forms and manuscripts. You can see her research papers on music, historical linguistics, cooking redactions, and more at her incredibly out of date website that she keeps meaning to update. Mundanely, Aibhilin is a linguist and speech pathologist, so will happily talk your ear off about language :) Visit my home page. |

apprenticed to Mistress Morgana bro Morganwyg. He got started in Ansteorra in AS XIV. At the Twenty-year Celebration he was the host of the bardic activities (at the time he was squired to Ansteorra's king and the Principal of the Queen's College of Bards). He then spent fifteen years in Nordskogen and got to watch the bardic arts helped that region develop its own identity, and grow into first a principality and then a kingdom. He's spent the last fifteen years in Cleftlands, and a few years ago was honored as the Queen's Bardic Champion. But his main claim to fame is that he's been filked. Corrie Bergeron is a lifelong learner and educator. He works at a community college a few suburbs east of Cleveland, teaching teachers how to teach with technology. |

Caírech Damán (Three Rivers Calontir) | |
Some 31 or so years ago I was introduced to the Society and attended my first event which
happened to be focused on learning period dance steps and dances. I enjoyed what I had learned and continued my learning of dance and many other arts and sciences. I became a squire and eventually an apprentice and have always believed that sharing what I have learned, just continues spreading some of the joys and excitement through others that I have experienced. To those that came before me I thank you, and to those that follow, I hope to inspire. This 8th Century Irishman has fought against and with the men from the North, I have been allowed to travel with these Norsemen experiencing and learning much from them. I have enjoyed fighting along side them, and drinking with them afterwards. I have introduces them to the use of soap, healing with herbs, and recording their deeds in the Coptic style books that I've made. During the slow months, leather work, metal work, and brewing are always needed and allow some time to complete some of these projects. These are but a few of the skills I have picked up, but there are always so many more yet to learn. Should our paths cross, I invite you to join me to share your knowledge with me as I with you - I look forward to meeting you soon. |

Cerian Cantwr (Tree-Girt-Sea Mid-Realm) | |
I am the Bardic Wrangler for Known World Cooks & Bards. If you've got any bardic related questions about the event, send them my way. Cerian Cantwr is a bard in the mid-15th century. He can be found wandering the land entertaining the populace with song, story, and poem. In the SCA, he does much the same and has spent 7 years as seneschal of Tree-Girt-Sea in expiation of his sins. During his spare (hah) time, he maintains far too many SCA web sites and has been drafted back from retirement as the co-provost for Mid-Realm Bardic Madness. He is squired to Sir Galem Lionel Ostwestly and Duke Comar gyr Mirand. Charles Grab is an independent computer consultant in the early 21st century. He can be found wandering the land building databases, applications, and system designs. Cerian can be heard on some of John Inchingham's CDs - available either from him or at the merchant booths of Celtic Sun or John ap Wynne. I currently have four apprentices, one foster apprentice, one ex-apprentice, and one ward: THL Beatrice de Winter [Rhydderich Hael, Æthelmearc] THL Juliane Bechaumpe [Cleftlands] THL Llwelyn Glyndwr (aka Llwelyn Glyndyverdwy) [Cleftlands] THL Hilla Stormbringer (aka Hilla Hammasdoghter) [Ravenslake] THL Siobhán an Einigh of Connacht (fosterling) [Grey Gargoyles] Lady Orsina della Luna (ward) [Cleftlands] Mistress Lucia Elena Braganza (ex-apprentice and OL) [Sternfeld] Visit my home page. |
Clara van den Broucke (Blackhawk Mid-Realm) | |
Many many years ago in my mundane life I trained as a chef and specialized in pastries, though it has been several years
since I have done them professionally. I am interested in historical foods, recreation of such, and also how to modify for modern consumption. I have taught others how to read music and speak that language. I am skilled in playing brass instruments, though have not done so for a few years. I was once a Soprano, but aging has taken my voice to another range. It is a sad state to no longer hit the notes you could easily do, and I am still working on the adjustment. Outside of that I spin wool into yarn, knit, crochet, or embroider with said yarn. I make my own garb. I am always happy to lend a hand and help anyone that has questions I might be able to answer. |
Cobflaith ingen Sitriucca meic Ímair (called Covelee) (Caer Anterth Mawr Northshield) | |
Hello! My full name is THL Cobflaith ingen
Sitriucca meic Ímair, but you can call me Covelee. I'm a bard. I write songs, sing, and play guitar. I also enjoy acting, but haven't done any so far in the SCA. I loooove singing harmony! I'm known for my song "Matilda, 1140" and I have a few other songs about the Normans. I write about SCA culture a bit as well. I'm apprenticed to Mistress Orlaith Ballach ingen Fhlainn, and have been singing with her group Cantore Borealis since she created it at Pennsic six years ago. More later. Ha. My blog is linked below, where you can see some of my lyrics, and for several there are YouTube links to performance videos. Peace! Visit my home page. |
Constanza della Oriente (Gleann Abhann) | |
I am THL Constanza della Oriente, CBM, CVO, CSR. I am protege to Mistress Daphane of Colechester.
I have been a member of and played in the Society for Creative Anachronism for the past 30 years. I am a cook and baker and have had the pleasure of being feast-o-crat at many events and autocratting a few inbetween. I am currently translating and redacting and testing recipes from Cristoforo Da Messisbugo, "Banchetti Composizioni Di Vivande E Apparecchio Generale". Over the past year or so I have also been teaching bread history and culture, along with the art of making bread and sourdough baking whenever the opportunity presents itself. I am also working on a larger research paper on the history of foods that we can identify from historical writings and archaeological finds. Food is so much a part of our culture and history. Mundanely I am my mother's and grandmother's child. My grandmother ran a boarding house in New Orleans and it is because of her that I cook. In the real world much of what I do involves research and digging for facts and tidbits of knowledge. This meshes well with my life within the society. Why teach about bread, one might ask? I teach about bread because the history of bread follows the history of humanity and the rise of great cultures and civilizations and because I asked a question, the answer of which led me to bread. |
Count William of Fairhaven, KSCA OP (Winged Hills Mid-Realm) | |
A Little About A Wandering Bard
I joined in 1981 and have been doing music since 1989. In the SCA, I have been active as a bard since I picked up a guitar in 1989. Along with Master Lewys Blackmore we created the group "Bardic Storm". A group dedicated to friends getting together and playing fun music at events and Pennsic War. I've been fortunate to work some truly great bards as I've wandered through the SCA. Outside the SCA I play in the Irish pub band "FinTan" (www.fintanband.com) - established in 2002, we've played in Ireland and Scotland multiple times and have logged over 500 paid performances in the last 18 years. FinTan continues to travel and perform 20-30 gigs a year plus going to Ireland or Scotland every 4 yours. Our fourth band trip is set for April 2021. One thing I've learned from more than 3 decades performing in front of people is the performance aspect of a "show" is just as important if not more important than the technical execution. That's where I've decided to focus - how to create better performances and performers. And, help folks work on their overall skills however I can. Tips, tricks and stories from the road to try and help bards grow and flourish. I am also knowledgeable on guitars (types, value, playing, instruction, guitar equipment (strings, tuners, guitar pickups, microphones), audio production, sound systems and more and am happy to help folks understand how investing in these items can improve their performances. SCA history wise I joined in 1981, squired in 1988, Knighted in 1994, Pelicaned in 1995, made a Baron of the Court in 2009 and won Crown for my Lady in Fall 2016. We made four bardic laurels during our reign and we think there should be more folks recognized for the contributions to the SCA in the bardic arts. |
Dahrien Cordell (Caer Anterth Mawr Northshield) | |
Dahrien often takes things far too seriously.
He is apprenticed to Master John Inchingham, and threatens to remain so even if the imponderable should happen and he should be made a Laurel. If you know Dahrien Cordell, then you know which of the figures in the photo is him, and which one is his friend and sometime rider, Rose. Dahrien can be heard on some of John Inchingham's CDs - available from Celtic Sun. Look for his solo album, Dahrien Cordell Does (In) Everyone Else's Greatest Hits! at finer establishments everywhere! (And if you find it, be sure to let him know; if it's already out there, it could save him a ton of studio time.) |
Dai Gerdwr (Sternfeld Mid-Realm) | |
Lord Dai Gerdwr is a mid-15th century Welsh landowner who travels the Knowne World in search of
good beers and good song, sharing his own creations along the way. Dai and his wife Líadan Liathán host the semi-annual "Slumber Bardy" weekend music and performance workshops. Bill Sutton is an award-winning singer/songwriter who has been brewing at various levels of expertise for 25 years. His favorite beverages include pale ales with a strong hop nose and flavor, ciders, sours, and gruits. His favorite songs include pretty much anything funny or poignant as long as they don't take enough time for a pizza delivery. Visit my home page. |
Drake Oranwood (Rusted Woodlands East) | |
Drake Oranwood is an English musician living in the late Tudor period. His primary focus is original
SCA songwriting and performance, and he sidelines in Elizabethan lute pieces on guitar and the occasional filk. He is a joint student of Master Toki Skáldagörvir of Æthelmearc and Master Peregrine the Illuminator of the East Kingdom. Previously, he had been apprenticed to Mesterno Tyzes Sofia (called Zsof) of the Midrealm, and studied under Maistre Lucien de Pontivy of the East Kingdom. He has served as Baronial Bard of Concordia of the Snows. Visit my home page. |
Elaisse de Garrigues (Calontir) | |
|
Elashava bas Riva (Jararvellir Northshield) | |
Elashava bas Riva is the 7th daughter of the 7th daughter born to a family of merchants in
Canterbury, England in the late 12th century. Over the years she has rode with the Great Dark Horde, time-traveled as the garb allowed, and dabbled in European dance, cooking, games, weaving, stained glass and enamels. Specializing in administration and a few ceremonial duties, there has hardly been a time when she did not hold an office or wear a hat. A few highlights include being recognized as a Laurel in AS 30 for her teaching of European dance by the Middle Kingdom, serving as Territorial Baroness of Jararvellir (March AS 31 to December AS 35), serving as Territorial Princess of Northshield in being AS 37, recognized as the principal Pelican of Northshield in December AS 39, and serving as Kingdom Seneschal of Northshield from January AS 39 to March AS 41. After 5 years of either being Kingdom Chronicler and/or Northwatch Editor, she has retired to the position of Art Director for the Complete Anachronist pamphlet series. I am proud to count among my dependents Lady Rochl bas Chaim Sternkiker (apprentice currently living in Nordskogen though no longer active in the SCA), THL Innokenti Rublyov called Kenya (apprentice living in the Barony of Jararvellir), Lady Cianna Kharleen (apprentice living in the Barony of Jararvellir), Lady Freydís in tryggva Sigurðardóttir (apprentice/protege ... hmmm, an apprenige?... living in the Shire of Mistig Waetru), Lord Marcial de Salas (apprentice/protege ... hmmm, a protice?... living in the Village of Hvitskogar), Killien MacDoughal (protege/apprentice in the Shire of Darkstone), and Isabella Beatrice della Rosa known as Belle (apprentice living in the Shire of Silfren Mere.) Last year I took a foster protege, Berenice Calvinna from the Shire of Colderdenhale. She has been proteged to Master Julio Galva'n who is unable to be active for the time being. And this spring, I took on Jose São Pacian on as a foster apprentice since his Master, Ingus Moen, is not able to be very active these days. |
Eliane Halevy (Jararvellir Northshield) | |
Hi, I'm Eliane. (Like Elaine except with the L and the I switched around.) I'm a bardic Laurel
from Northshield. I live in the Barony of Jararvellir (Madison, WI) where the previous KWBC was held, though I attended 5 previous KWBCs before that. My favorite thing to do is singing, whether it's in choirs, around the fire, or in concerts with friends! I am into all kinds of period music and poetry as well as SCA-culture bardic works, and have a special interest in improvisational harmony in bardic music. When not singing, I can be found knitting, doing/teaching kumihimo, illuminating, and enjoying various textile arts. I've been in the SCA for 22 years and have been a Chronicler, Webminister, and (my favorite) Shire, Baronial, and Principality-into-Kingdom Chatelaine. My War is Pennsic, and I camp so I don't have to find my car and navigate unfamiliar roads to a hotel at 3 am after a successful bardic circle. |
Elss of Augsburg (Æthelmearc) | |
|
Emelote of Calais (Ealdormere) | |
The Honourable Lady Emelote of Calais (pronounced: Ehm-eh-loh) was born in Calais, France in 1494. She is the only child from her parents. Her Father was a Merchant of the Staple of Calais and was influential in the wool trade in Calais. Being the only child, her Father thought it wise to educate her in the wool business so that she may ensure the family legacy, no matter the man she married. Her family spent time between Calais and their wool estates in the Chichester area of England.
Emelote was first introduced to the SCA from a TV Program called Adrienne Clarkson Presents in which the presenter followed the King and Queen of Ealdormere to Pennsic (1998). At the time she had no idea what the SCA was and searched on what little was available online. She found the Canton of Caldrithig (Ottawa, Canada) and attended her first feast in 1999 and recalls the food was amazing. It wouldn't be until a chance meeting at a party in 2007 that would forever change her. That meeting had her fall into the realm of historical cooking and never looking back! I enjoy serving the crown as entourage when I'm not in the kitchen. I love anything to do with the fibre arts and have a new passion in doing illuminated images. My motto is: Mei modi ridiculum (My kind of ridiculous) and I am all about the rabbit hole. I enjoy showing the interested public what we do in the SCA and meeting new people! Visit my home page. |
Ermagerd (Ansteorra) | |
Ermagerd is a 9th century Frank from the city of Tours.
Ermagerd is also an Ansteorran bard and musician who enjoys singing 16th century choral music, writing original songs and poems, studying interkingdom anthropology, geeking about clothes and fiber arts, playing kazoo in the dance band, teaching, making early period foods with fire, trying all the things, and performing at interkingdom events and modern festivals. Ermagerd teaches Chorale du Lac (Bog Choir) at Pennsic, sings and plays all the random instruments with the band www.ravenboymusic.com , and has been featured on the Ansteorra episode and the Pride episode of the Known World Bardcast. Ermagerd finds writing about oneself in the third person to be humorous. Visit my home page. |
Euriol of Lothian (Æthelmearc) | |
Euriol of Lothian is a 14th century low-land Scot who loves to travel to the great courts and
kitchens of Europe. She is one three authors for the newly published Traveling Dysshes, 3rd edition. |

Fiondel Songspinner (Three Rivers Calontir) | |
Fiondel Songspinner, of the Barony of Three Rivers.
Member of the Society since 1983. Have stewarded 11 kingdom-level feasts. Member of the order of the Calon Lily (GoA arts award) and Companion of the Cross of Calontir (GoA level service award). All of which is a very dry and dusty way of saying, "I like to DO STUFF!" I embroider, I cook, I provide snacks. Love writing irreverent filksongs as much as I love performing period-correct medieval music. Have been known, from time to time, to fall down the occasional esoteric research rabbit hole. :D Come to the kitchen. Hang out. Tell me a story. Sing me a song. I have snacks. |
Gelis Mackitterick (Ayreton Mid-Realm) | |
|
Giacomo Fornerigo (Gleann Abhann) | |
Mundanely, I teach baking and culinary
arts at an accredited culinary school. In the SCA, I enjoy researching period food, organizing and presenting feasts, and teaching. |
Helewyse de Birkestad (Grey Gargoyles Mid-Realm) | |
I am a cook, brewer and potter. I specialize mainly in cuisine from th 16th century Italian peninsula and translated the anonymous Venetian cookbook many years ago. I mostly brew beer although I have also brewed ciders and meads. In ceramics I am very eclectic and make whatever strikes my fancy. |
Heregyth Ketilsdottir (Baile na Scolairi Mid-Realm) | |
Coordinating instrumental music classes and jam sessions at this event. Apprentice to John Inchingham in Midrealm, formerly of John Chandler of Northshield. Traveling musician, bard who often sings about baking, and once leveraged SCA kitchen experience into a restaurant kitchen job to start a 7-year career of cooking. |
Hilla Stormbringer (Ravenslake Mid-Realm) | |
Persona:
Hilla is the eldest child and only daughter of Hama Ealdorman and his wife Leofrun. Though she is a capable enough cook and aid in household duties, and though she can darn a sock like no one's business, her true skill is as a scop. She loves to sing and craft songs and tales, and tell old legends in the feasting hall. Storms follow her wherever she goes. SCA: Hilla can be seen (or at least heard) at events, singing, singing, singing, causing mischief and mayhem, and random telling of stories. Her other activities include occasional illumination, missing archery targets, and attempting to not bleed on embroidery. She is apprenticed to Master Cerian Cantwr, and accordingly, finally learned how to spell 'Cantwr'. Contrary to popular belief, Hilla cannot control the weather. (Disclaimer: Hilla cannot independently confirm the veracity of the last statement.) Hilla is the current Bard of the Border. |
HL Abbatissa (Three Rivers Calontir) | |
I have been in the SCA for 8 years, I have a silver hammer (GOA) and I am the head baker of the Kingdom of Calontir's Bakers Guild |
HL Rowan Houndskeeper (Three Rivers Calontir) | |
|
Isolde de la Ramee (Winged Hills Mid-Realm) | |
I joined the SCA as a college student 40 plus years ago. While I have dabbled in most of the
arts, in the late 90s, I discovered a love for the Old English language and it's poetry. I was recognized as a Laurel for my research. I have continued to dabble with this and that, but always return to Old English. |

myths. Juliane shared the role of Middle Kingdom Bardic Champion with Llywelyn Glendwr during the second reign of Runa and Eikbrandr. She also served on the staff of Radagasius and Ceinwen as Coordinator of Revels, again in partnership with Llywelyn. Juliane is a member of House Sans Nomen and apprenticed to Master Cerian Cantwr. She is a former professional dancer and remains engaged as an arts and environmental educator. Her teaching centers on using movement, improvisation and observation exercises to sharpen performance skills. |
Kajsa Nikulasdotter (Three Rivers Calontir) | |
I am a Calontir Laurel of many coats. Primarily granted my laurel for my leather work, I also have spent decades in
SCA kitchens and on stage, appearing with my husband. I have run a monthly fundraising dinner for the Barony of Three Rivers for the majority of the last 18 years. |
Kudrun Pilegrim (Rokeclif Northshield) | |
It is now 1289! How the time flies. It's been four years since I left the Ettrick Forest and found a
cottage in Giggleswick. I have been lucky to find opportunities to write and teach, and even to make an occasional "pilgrimage" to the college to continue my research and to visit the local fairs. |
Ld. Alaric Acwulf (Fox Bridge Calontir) | |
According to Baron Modar's history, I was an established resident of the Shire of the Forgotten Sea by August, AS XII (CE 1977). In those early years I also spent much of my time in Oakheart, and in fact received my AoA for service to that shire. I later went on to receive a Leather Mallet for my work with herbs.
I saw Forgotten Sea grow from a shire into a barony, and Calontir come together as a new principality and then become an independent kingdom. But in AS XXXVI my husband was offered a career position in the east and so we moved to distant Æthelmearc. Eventually, in Æthelmearc, I settled in the Shire of Sunderoak where I served as their local herald. From that point I went on to be the kingdom's Gage Herald, supervising the heralds in one of Æthelmearc's four regions. For this I was awarded a Keystone, something I am still proud of. We returned west to Calontir in the summer of AS LIII, at Lammastide. Over the years, as a subject of two kingdoms, I have come to appreciate how deeply the Society can affect our lives. Now that I have come home and settled in Fox Bridge, I hope to share the experience and opportunity inherent in the SCA with others. |
Líadan Liathán (Sternfeld Mid-Realm) | |
Líadan Liathán is an award-winning singer/songwriter both as a solo performer and with several bands, including Three Weird Sisters, Alair, Bed 'n' Breakfast, and Dead Sexy. Lina (Shattered Crystal Mid-Realm) | |
|
Lisette la fauconniere d'Amboise (Forgotten Sea Calontir) | |
Protégé to Isolde of Hawksholme
Apprentice to Suzanne de la Ferte I spend my days keeping my people fed. Hungry people do not make beautiful things. The battle isn't nearly as glorious if the army faints from low blood sugar in the sun. Hangry bards write mean songs. I'm here to make sure none of that happens. I also make cheese and teach others how. Doing my part to help the society cover up that fighter smell. |
Llywelyn Glyndyverdwy (Glyndwr) (Cleftlands Mid-Realm) | |
Llywelyn is the nominal head of the bardic household Gorsedd. He is perhaps best known to the
populace of North Oaken as Barista Vente (Lady Juliane Bechaumpe is Barista Trenta) of the Magic Carpet Kavehane, a bardic coffee house. He and Juliane served on the staff of Radagaisus and Ceinwen in AS XLIV-XLV as Master and Mistress of the Revels, and he has served as provost of both Midrealm's Bardic Madness and the Known World Bardic Collegium at Pennsic. In AS XLVI, he was named co-Kingdom Bardic Champion (with Lady Juliane) for the second reign of Eikbrandr and Runa. He is apprenticed to Master Cerian Cantwr. Visit my home page. |
Lucia de Moranza (Ealdormere) | |
|
Lucia Elena Braganza (Sternfeld Mid-Realm) | |
Lucia Elena Beatrice di Mettenini a Firenza Braganza is one of the infamous oft-widowed Von
Metten girls, but with two ex-es already turfed, she should be fairly safe. She doesn't have a well-developed persona, but likes Florence in the 1400's and tends to tag along after her good friend Francesca, who's teaching her the intricacies of Tuscan wines. Lucia has more often been spotted for her work as a scribe and the violinist for Musica Subterranea, before discovering the Pennsic Bardic Symposium in AS 38 and a big muckin' spear in AS 39. She is a devoted harmony junkie, and loves the magic when a good circle "clicks." She's fascinated by the tie between the bardic arts and SCA culture, and the ability for each to shape the other. She has way too many heroes, and more than half of the Amphisbaena Music CDs, which she is slowly committing to memory. She was apprenticed to Master Cerian Cantwr for seven years, ran off without graduating, and had just taken up with Mistress Tyze Sophia for a fresh round of shenanigans when the Order Of the Laurel pounced on her. Kathi Coutinho has an occasional taste for high adventure and surprising people. She's been a weed-slayer for The Nature Conservancy, a cyberstalker for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, and a trainer for Girl Scouts and (currently) an Insurance Enforcer for a moving company. Her house is always cluttered, but always loves visitors. |

Marianna Garcia (Ansteorra) | |
I'm Lady Mariana Garcia, a Spanish 13th-ish century woman who married a viking trader hundreds of
years old than me. I currently live in the Barony of Bjornsborg in the Kingdom of Ansteorra. I'm very excited to attend the cooks and bards Symposium. I enjoy cooking, pottery, fighting the sewing machine from time to time, feeding people and just enjoying time with friends. Part of my dream in the SCA is to help folks find their A&S passion. To encourage folks to try that craft or science that they wouldn't have dreamed doing outside the SCA. I'm developing a blog... I might finish getting that together one day. The SCA has been part of my life since 2009 and I love it. The opportunity to meet so many people from so many different backgrounds and cultures has been a wonderful blessing. I've have to chance to cook a few feast, organize classes, teach the arts that I am passionate about, organize events, and work with some truly talented people. I am apprenticed to Mistress Oksana Goncharova. I look forward to seeing you. |

Mistress Ursula df'Arcy (Outlands) | |

indulge in all my interests, from cooking, fiber arts, gardening, archery, to historical research and re-enactment. In 1987, I received a Pelican for my service in the Kingdom of the Outlands, and in 2002, a Laurel for my cooking skills. Mwynwen Ysginidd Called Strawberry (Shattered Crystal Mid-Realm) | |
I am called Strawberry. I learn so I teach, I eat, so I cook, I drink so I make drinks, I game so I
study games, and make game boards and lampwork game sets, I shoot archery, so I make arrows, I wear clothes, so I make clothes. You get the idea. My Alignment is Chaotic Naughty, I have a large Personality and express it very well. The SCA IS Arts & Science, It is why we are a historical group and not a sport fighting group or fantasy group. My goal is to each year make my kit 10% more period. The SCA is my church, because a church is a group of people that is a community. I found the SCA while living with my Foster mom and dad and brother. They didnt expect to have me staying with them when they took me in but that 9 months set me on a life of SCA. You can get me to sit still only at a gaming table in the evening when the chores are done. n find me schlepping or teaching because that is where I will be. NOW My persona is that of a Welsh Brew-wife, Married to a sailor. I live in the port town where I run my pub while I wait for my husband to come home from sea. I even get to play a game or 2 when the chores are done. You don't pick the cards you are dealt in life but by goodness you should play the heck out of the hand you are dealt. |

Samson Muskovich (Carraig Ban Mid-Realm) | |
Samson, better known as Samii, is a Rus-Viking nomad who earns his keep as a merchant/trader and sometimes mercenary. He believes strongly in seizing the opportunities presented to him as long as they do not compromise his integrity.
When not fighting, shooting target archery, or making something, he has been known to lend a hand or two at events. Much like his persona, Samii claims to be a nomad of the Midlands region, having ties to 3 of the Baronies in the region and traveling frequently between them. He's also been known to carry a tune from time to time. Samii currently presides as Thegn in the Barony of Carraig Ban, serving alongside Baron Honda Heihachiro as the Landed Nobility there. Sandro dei Strozzi da Montefeltro (Calontir) | |
For the last 5 years, I have spent my time in the SCA serving as a Herald, and a scholar in the
science of Period food preservation. I've had the honor of serving in various capacities, with the Renaissance Village at Gulf Wars (formerly known as the Ca' d'Oro Salon). With this year serving primarily as the deputy for the Cooking Area. Through this position, I've had the distinct pleasure of working with, and meeting, numerous persons skilled in the art and science of Period cookery. My work with Period food preservation has led me to a number of interesting experiments, as well as my continued dedication to camping without a cooler at longer events. A lifestyle I can claim to have adhered to for the last 3 years. Though, for all my work, I draw inspiration from those far more experienced than myself, with a personal role model being Duke Cariadoc. When not busy teaching, or tending to various and sundry duties, I'm always more than happy to spend my time chatting the ears off anyone who will listen to my ramblings on preservation, and the science behind it. I like to play with fire. Sometimes that involves food. I'm a Mozarabe (Christian) woman living in the taifa kingdoms of Toledo and Cordoba in al-Andalus (Muslim Spain) during the 11th century. I mostly rely on the Anonymous Andalusi Cookbook for inspiration. I am starting to plan a series of feasts showcasing medieval religious food traditions, starting with a vegan Lenten feast. |
Solveig Sigulfsdottir (Shadowed Stars Mid-Realm) | |
I discovered the SCA in 1989 while trying to find a group interested in Medieval music. My music
playing days went by the wayside and I've dabbled my way through all things fiber until the cooking bug finally took a firm hold. I especially love to cook outside over a fire or in a very hot oven. I am in search of the elusive Anglo Saxon Festival Cake, and am willing to exchange riches for any information on said cake. I've been known to take road trips, hauling large loads of dirt, just of enable others in their quest to build the perfect clay oven. Someday I hope to have my very own oven too. |

Urtatim al-Qurtubiyya bint 'abd al-Karim al-hakam al-Fasi (West) | |
I was born in the university city of Fas (Fez to the Franj) in al-Maghrib, where my father is a qadi and a professor at the University of al-Qarawiyyin, the oldest existing, continually operating, higher educational institution in the world. My father made certain that i was well-educated. To further my career i moved to the city of Córdoba during the glorious reign of the great Caliph and Umayyad prince 'abd al Rahman III, who was born 891 and began ruling in 912.
SCA: Since 2000 I have cooked feasts from a wide range of historical sources. In my teaching, i have specialized in the cuisines of the medieval Near and Middle East. I teach annually both at the West Coast Culinary Symposium (which moves among Antir, The West, and Caid) and at Pennsic, as well as at other events. I am also a resource for information on clothing throughout the Near and Middle East, and teach classes on various topics within that broad heading. Additionally, i have taught classes on the Silk Roads and Spice Routes of the ancient and medieval worlds. And i have a long-standing interest in textile-related topics. I translated the Ottoman recipes written down by Mehmet bin Mahmoud Shirvani around 1430 from Turkish into English and have been teaching some of them at various events throughout the Known World since 2005. My translation will be published in 2020 as a Compleat Anachronist. At KWC&B 2019 I will teach a survey class on the culinary world of the Near and Middle East and one or two hands-on cooking classes. Visit my home page. |
