6th Century Woman's Kentish Coat: A reconstruction of a woman's coat from 6th century Kent based on archaeological evidence [Costuming, Experimental Archeology, Research] by Meadhbh Ballach ingen Eochada
This coat is an interpretation of a garment worn by 6th century women in Kent. It was influenced by Frankish fashions, and is
not generally seen in other regions of Britain. Primary evidence for this style comes from the garment fasteners and small bits of
textiles found in inhumation burials. While the specific cut and construction of the coat are not known, the general style has
been reconstructed on the basis of brooch placement and the scraps of often mineralized textiles preserved by brooches and pins.
