Welcome to the Midlands and the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). Here you'll find a plethora of fun things to see and do, lots of good company and conversation, and enough new hobbies to fill several lifetimes. If this is your first visit to the current Middle Ages however, it can all be a bit confusing. This page and it's links are an attempt to make getting started just a little bit easier.

If you've got any questions or comments, please e-mail the webmaster at cerian@minstrel.com. Newcomers, your input is especially valuable. If you've got a question that this page doesn't answer, chances are somebody else does too. Let me know what it is and I'll try to add the answer somewhere here.

Find your local group The best way to get started is to find and meet with your local group. Surfing the web will get you lots of information, but at its heart the SCA is all about people. The best way to experience it is to get out and meet some of us. To find out which group (or groups) are closest to you, take a look at the Midlands Groups Page. If you're in an area where several groups are close together (especially true in the Chicago area), don't worry about where the "boundaries" are, we don't pay any attention to them anyway. Feel free to play in whatever group, or groups, are convenient and comfortable for you. If you're from outside the region, you can take a look at the Kingdom groups page (or you can travel however far a journey it is for you to here, the most fun-filled and irreverent of the Mid-Realm's regions :-)
Glossary The SCA is a culture that has been evolving for 40 years. As with any other organization, its developed a jargon all its' own. Some commonly used words or phrases will be either unfamiliar or have different meanings than you expect. Take a look at the glossary for an explanation some of the more common ones.
What is the SCA? Ok, that's a fair question :-) Follow this link to the article on the Society's Home Page. They've had a lot of practice explaining it.
