Candle in the Window

Master Cerian Cantwr

A young maid, I did marry with a boy off to war.
We waved sad farewells as I watched from my door.
The tears blurred my eyes as he set out to roam.
One lit candle in the window will guide him back home.

'Twas only a year when I heard the sad word -
My love had been slain; news I wish I'd not heard.
Even though he is gone now and down 'neath loam,
One lit candle in the window will guide him back home.

My friends try to comfort, but to no avail.
I waste away slowly, my face gaunt and pale.
I languish here pining, so lost and alone.
One lit candle in the window will guide him back home.

After only a fortnight I passed from this earth.
Once my love's life was lost, then my own had no worth.
I pass now from this world in a grave that's my own.
One lit candle in the window will guide him back home.

My bright boy and I are united once more.
His spirit has found mine, my heart's no more sore.
Together we slumber beneath our headstone.
No more candle in the window, my love is back home.
