Here is the current A & S class schedule for the Ayreton Carnival. If you have any questions, please contact the class coordinator, Jale bint Amar.

10 to 11:
Room 1 Simple Adornments Margrett Norwoode Make Your Own Head Wreath. Hands-on class to construct a simple dried baby's breath circlet/head wreath to adorn your veil or the hair of a fair young maiden. This class will involve wire and scissors and is not appropriate for young children.
Class Limit: 8 people plus $6 fee for materials
Room 2 Khaligi Sahar Khaliji dance is the dance of the Persian Gulf States and Saudi Arabia using the Khaleegy rhythm. It is sometimes called a hair dance because the hair is worn long and loose and is swung from side to side and tossed in circles and figure 8's. The emphasis in movement is in the delicate footwork and in the upper body.
Room 3 Sting Free Beekeeping Dunstan Bramblette Keeping bees in the known world.
Room 4 Hand Kissing Ian the Green Basic dos and don'ts in the SCA.


11 to 12:
Room 1 16th Century Italian Gown Juliana Peri da Novellara & Phebe Bonadeci More is More. It's research, it's making, and it's wearing a 16th century Italian gown and decorative chemise
Room 2 Pay the Toll to the Troll Marie la Fauconniere Efficient Event Gatekeeping. Overview of a proven efficient system of event bookkeeping. From choosing the location at the event site, through staffing, waivers, and balancing the books.
Class limit: 12 plus $2 for handout packet with CD-ROM of spreadsheets and documents.
Room 3 Illuminated Manuscripts - Historcal Perspective Isabel of Kenniston An overview of the historical and cultural elements that influenced the development of books in the Middle Ages, particularly what we know as "illuminated" manuscripts.
Room 4 Beginning Partsong The Pippins Have you ever wanted to try singing madrigals or medieval music in a group, but weren't sure how to do it? In this class, The Pippins will teach a beginning song in 4 parts, and discuss how to approach learning your part and joining it together. For anyone who attends, you will have an opportunity to perform the song with the Pippins in a concert later in the day!


1 to 2:
Room 1 Basic Turnshoes Seamus Tools and techniques.
Room 2 Beginning Fingerloop Braiding Adam Trent Class size limit 12. To learn between 1-3 of the basic fingerloop patterns within the hour.
Room 3 Messenger of the Gods Dunstan Bramblette A history of the bee and beekeeper. From big bang to present.
Room 4 How to Look Like You Stepped Out of A Painting Gianetta Andreini da Vicenza Garb research from contemporary sources. When you're creating a piece of garb, you can copy the clothing from one painting. But how do you learn the style of a particular type of garb, so that you can make something that looks like it MIGHT have been from a portrait, but is in fact your own unique creation? We'll look at how to research a style, and some of the pitfalls to avoid.


2 to 3:
Room 1 Naughty Knots Gretchen Buchner Knots are not a problem! This class will teach you basic embroidery techniques to keep some knots at bay and how to fix the rest of those knotty nightmares when they happen.
Room 2 Beginning 15th Century Italian Dance Philip White Fun period dances that will introduce you to Italian dance. We will start with steps and work up to learning whole dances.
Room 3 Manuscript Illumination: Styles, Terminology, and Basic Techniques Philippa of Otterbourne Anyone interested in Illuminated Manuscripts or the beginner scribe will be introduced to the varying styles of illumination, the terminology used, and the basic techniques used to create illuminated manuscripts: gilding, whiteworking, diapering, etc. This is a lecture class with examples and a handout.
Room 4 Last One in is a Rotten Shoemaker Seamus Lasts and lasting for reproduction turnshoes.


3 to 4:
Room 1 Perfumes in History Heather No class decription available.
Room 2 Research Tips & Techniques Gretchen Buchner This class will go over basic resources you can use to start your research, how to find key terms to get better search results, and how to follow the trail to richer resources.
Room 3 A Savory Dish: Typical Seasonings in Elizabethan England Marie la Fauconniere Survey of seasonings used in Elizabethan cooking, based on the Fetiplace recipes. Samples available to taste.
Room 4 Regional Chatelains Meeting Hilary of Langeford This is an informal get together for local chatelaines. Be prepared to ask and answer questions, discuss concerns and share good ideas. Cookies and/or other munchies will be provided.
